The Data Ingest Service offers users the possibility to upload data from external storage media such as external hard-drives to the Data Archive storage facilities. We have a 2 socket machine with 10 Gbps network connectivity to the SURFsara infrastructure. It has 48 GB memory and can hold up to 45 3.5'' disks. On this machine all the necessary software is available to upload your data.
The Data Ingest Service is a service provided by SURFsara for users that want to upload a large amount of data to SURFsara and who do not have the sufficient amount of network bandwidth to do this in a reasonable amount of time, or who have their data stored on a number of external disk drives.
Although SURFsara has a number of internal controls and procedures to prevent loss, damage or disclosure of your data, SURFsara is not responsible for damages associated with loss or inadvertent disclosure of data, or the loss, damage or destruction of your storage device. You should always retain a back-up copy of your data.
The SURFsara Data Archive allows the user to safely archive up to petabytes of valuable research data.
Persistent identifiers (PIDs) ensure the findability of your data. SURFsara offers a PID provisioning service in cooperation with the European Persistent Identifier Consortium (EPIC).
